Just the other day, I was on the phone with a dear friend and fellow entrepreneur who I love and respect immensely. She was helping me noodle through an idea I had for my business.
While on the phone, her cute as can be 2 year old grandson kept interrupting. He wanted her attention and he wanted to use her phone/and or her computer. He had just woken up from a nap and it was his usual witching hour. However, in that particular moment he seemed to be needing his grandma’s time, attention and technology more than usual.
Later, I received an email from my friend apologizing for the disruptions. She wrote something that struck me at the end of her email - “Now he’s totally better - just needed some time I guess."
"Keep taking time for yourself until you are you again." - Unknown
He just needed some time. I thought to myself, hmmm….. I can relate. There have been times I’ve just needed some time. And, I have to tell you, I haven’t always honored that.
How about you?
Have you ever felt like you had so many things coming at you and you just needed to take a breath? Have you ever felt like you couldn’t quite make a decision because you needed a moment to clear your head? Have you ever felt like you just needed to time to breath, nap, think, be, pray, walk, paint, cuddle, cry or do something other than what you’re doing?
I’ve noticed that if I don’t give myself time to do whatever it is I need, discomfort lingers. I find myself forging ahead without all of my energy and focus. Alternatively, when I do honor myself and take the time that I need everything flows more easily.
Next time you find your inner 2 year old being a bit disruptive, take a pause and find out if he/she needs some time.
Taking some time for what you need is sexy.
